“Look like th’ innocent flower, but be the serpent under’t“ (Macbeth by William Shakespeare ACT 1, scene v)

Exploring Shakespeare with Prof. Kullmann (FB7, Anglistik, Universität Osnabrück)

On Monday, March 16th, 2026, Prof. Thomas Kullmann, a well-known Shakespeare expert from Osnabrück University, visited our Q1 advanced English course (with Ms Zaksek and Mrs Conrad). Since our topic this term was Macbeth, we analysed a prepared excerpt together, focusing on language and stylistic devices. Prof. Kullmann explained clearly, shared insights from his academic research, and offered glimpses into Shakespeare’s life. We asked our prepared questions, and his detailed answers were eye-opening. He also introduced his recently published novel Am Not I Your Katherine, based on a real-life person connected to Shakespeare and presenting his own interpretation. The engaging session deepened our understanding of Shakespeare’s works and showed that careful rereading always reveals new perspectives. We hope to see him again in the future.
